West Point Camping Trip

By David S. – Timberwolves

On Friday, October 12, 2001 Troop 46 met at the Harlingen Reformed Church at

6 p.m. to leave for the West Point camping trip. There were about a hundred scouts and dads on the trip. We left the church a little after 7 p.m. and arrived at Lake Frederick camping area at about 9 p.m. Even though we spent about a half hour waiting to get to our sites, everyone still had their tents set up by about 10 p.m. Then we went to bed.

We had an early 6 a.m. wakeup and a quick breakfast. We drove to West Point and parked at the base. First we visited the cemetery. We saw Custer’s plot and the plots of other famous Americans. We then walked to the parade grounds and watched the proud Cadets march in their dress blue uniforms. After the parade, we ate lunch and then walked to the football game at the stadium, which was very far away.

Though the game was good, East Carolina beat the Army by a lot. After the game, we walked back to the parking lots and drove back to Lake Frederick. We had dinner, cleaned up, played Capture the Flag, and then went to bed. The next morning we had a cooked breakfast, broke camp, and arrived home around 11 a.m.
